Long Road Education
Outdoor Education Reimagined
Welcome!
There is a moment every outdoor educator knows...
It happens somewhere between the first night under open sky and the last morning packing camp. A student who has barely spoken all term says something that stops you cold — something clear-eyed and true, something that couldn't have been said in a classroom.
That moment is not an accident. It is the product of distance, discomfort, wonder, and time. It is what happens when young people are removed from everything familiar and asked to navigate the world as it actually is.
Outdoor education has known this for decades. The research is unambiguous. The outcomes — in resilience, identity, collaboration, and self-knowledge — are real and lasting.
And yet, for more than forty years, the dominant model for delivering those outcomes has remained essentially unchanged: a fixed campus, a permanent site, a destination students travel to and then leave.
We believe that model has run its course.
Something new is coming. Something that has never been done before in Australian outdoor education.
We're not ready to tell you everything just yet — but we think you'll find it worth the wait.
